Board of Directors

The Atkins Investment Group is overseen and aided by a Board of Directors that consists of University of New Hampshire Alumni who are now working in respective positions within the world of investments. The combination of their financial experience and expertise helps students make more educated decisions when it comes to selecting investments. The members of the Atkins Investment Group are very thankful and proud to have such a distinguished and accomplished Board of Directors.

David Greenlaw

Chief U.S. Economist, Morgan Stanley, UNH Class of 1980

David Greenlaw is a Managing Director and Chief U.S. Fixed Income Economist with the investment banking firm of Morgan Stanley. His primary duties involve analysis of the U.S. economy and credit markets, including Federal Reserve and Treasury activity. He is also responsible for the projections of key economic indicators. Mr. Greenlaw was recently named "Best Fed Forecaster" in a Bloomberg Markets magazine survey. He was also the first back-to-back winner of the Dow Jones MarketWatch "Forecaster of the Month" award.

Before joining Morgan Stanley in 1986, David served on the staff of the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC for four years. Mr. Greenlaw holds an M.B.A. degree from New York University and a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire. He has also done extensive graduate work at the University of Chicago and The George Washington University.

David L. King, CFA

Senior Portfolio Manager, Putnam Investments, UNH Class of 1978

Mr. King is Putnam Investments' Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager in the Large Cap Value team and he has recently been named Associate Director of Global Equity Research. He is the portfolio leader for the New Value Fund, Convertible Growth & Income Fund and the High Income Bond Fund. He is a portfolio member on the Fund for Growth & Income.

Mr. King joined Putnam in 1983. He is a CFA charterholder with 22 years of investment experience. Previously, David was a credit analyst at Manufacturers Hanover Trust and a lending officer at Citibank. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of New Hampshire in 1978 with B.S. in Business Administration. In 1983, Mr. King earned his M.B.A from Harvard Business School.

James Ben

Managing Director, Barclays Capital, UNH Class of 1992

James Ben is a Managing Director and Head of Global Consumer M&A at Barclays Capital.  Prior to joining Barclays Capital in September 2008, Mr. Ben was head of Lehman Brothers' Consumer Mergers & Acquisition Group, a position he held since 2007.  During the course of his career, Mr. Ben has completed over $30 billion in M&A transaction volume and has also completed multiple financings, including initial public offerings and secondary public offerings of equity, investment grade and high yield debt financings.

Mr. Ben is also a lawyer and previously practiced law with Sullivan & Cromwell (New York), as a member of the firm's Merger & Acquisitions Group, and with Bingham McCutchen (Boston) as an associate in the firm's Corporate Department.  He holds a BS in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire and a JD (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Miami School of Law.

Morgan J. Rutman

Managing Partner, Harvest Management, LLC, UNH Class of 1984

Morgan Rutman has been involved in the Hedge fund industry for over 20 years.  He previously worked for Michal Steinhardt and was a partner at Farallon Capital.  In 2008, he retired from managing Harvest Capital, a $1 billion dollar hedge fund which he co-founded in 1993 to invest in Event Driven and Distressed Securities investing.  Morgan is currently President of Willoughby Capital Management, Chair of the UNH Foundation’s Investment Committee and an advisor to the Atkins Investment Group.  Morgan graduated with honors from the Whittemore School of Business and Economics at the University of New Hampshire in 1984. 

Mr. Rutman and his wife Tara established the Rutman Family Graduate Fellowship in History to both honor Mr. Rutman's parents, Darrett and Anita Rutman, and to provide resources that will strengthen academic programming and enhance faculty development within the History Department. Darrett B. Rutman was a distinguished scholar and served on the faculty of the UNH History Department from 1968-1984. Mr. Rutman is a member of the UNH Foundation's Board of Directors.

Joseph Zock

UNH Class of 1977

Mr. Zock has been involved with finance and real estate for over 20 years. He is a founding partner of Capital Management Associates in New York City. Established in 1982, Capital Management Associates (CMA) is a Registered Investment Adviser and Mid-Cap Value Equity manager for Pension Plans, Foundations and Endowments, Hospitals and Private Clients.

Prior to this position, Joseph served as a portfolio manager and research analyst at H.N. Whitney, Goadby & Company, 1980-82 and also was an Associate Attorney specializing in tax for Zock, Petrie, Reid and Curtin, 1978-1980. Mr. Zock and CMA also have hosted competitive internships for UNH and WSBE students for the past several years.

Joseph Zock received his BA from UNH in political science and economics in 1977. He also holds a JD from Western State University College of Law, San Diego (1980) and a Certificate in International Law, University of London, Kings College School of Law.

Brad Flaishans

Analyst, Morgan Stanley, UNH Class of 2008

Brad Flaishans is an analyst in the Investment Banking Division of Morgan Stanley. He focuses primarily on analyzing and executing leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations, and debt and equity offerings for Financial Sponsor owned companies. His transaction experience includes the $1.1Bn Talecris Biotherapeutics IPO, Warner Chilcott’s $3.1Bn acquisition of P&G Pharmaceuticals, and KKR’s reverse merger with its permanent capital vehicle KPE. Brad is joining the New York based Private Equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice in August 2010 as an associate.

Brad graduated summa cum laude from the Whittemore School of Business & Economics at UNH in 2008 with a B.S. in Business Administration. Brad was a member of the Atkins Investment Group for 3 years, including serving as the portfolio manager in 2007-2008. Brad was also a member of the UNH Men’s Ice Hockey team for 4 years and was named an All American in 2008.
